Monitors and alerts

A monitor watches an answer for you and tells you when it changes. It's written as a plain sentence:

Alert #aero-launch when tone toward the MagPort drops 0.2 below its 4-week average.

Creating a monitor

After a notable answer, the AI offers to watch it, or you can click Watch this under any answer, or ask: "Tell me if tier-1 coverage of the recall passes five stories a day."

Monitors always ask before they're created, because they notify people and cost credits every month. The approval card shows:

• the sentence the monitor will check;
• a backtest: the last 30 days drawn as a chart, with a marker wherever the monitor would have fired;
• where alerts go;
• what it costs a month. A two-question monitor costs about 35 credits a month.

Click Create monitor, or Not now.

Every new subject also gets two quiet monitors: its first tier-1 story, and a sharp drop in tone.

The monitors panel

Each subject's dashboard lists its monitors, each with its state (quiet, fired or paused) and when it last fired. Click one to see its sheet: the sentence, the backtest, its channels, its cost, its alerts with their evidence, and the rule in plain words. From there you can Pause or Resume it, change where alerts go, or Edit in chat to change the rule in conversation.

Alerts

An alert says what changed, by how much, and where to look: the value against its usual level, the articles that caused it, and a chart of the days around it.

• Discuss opens a chat that already knows what happened, and asks "Why did this fire?" for you.
• Acknowledge marks it seen for everyone; Snooze quiets the monitor for a while.

While Typestream is open, a quiet message tells you about a new alert, and the subject's header marks it for three days. There's no notification bell: Home holds the history.

Where alerts go

Alerts go by email first. An admin can add organisation channels in Settings → Notifications:

• Slack: connect Typestream to your workspace and choose a channel, or paste an incoming-webhook URL.
• Microsoft Teams: paste a Workflows webhook URL for the channel. The settings page shows how to make one.
• Webhooks: Typestream sends a signed JSON body to your URL. The signing secret is shown once when you add the webhook; rotate it at any time.

Every channel can be tested and removed, and the delivery log shows each message and whether it arrived, with the reason if it didn't.

Your own email settings

Each person chooses which emails they get, in Settings → Notifications: alert emails, and a digest of what changed, daily, weekly or never. Home and the digest show the same changes.
