Credits and billing

Typestream's AI work is paid for in credits. Credits belong to the organisation, and everyone in it spends from the same balance.

What a credit is

One credit is one US cent. Credits are priced from what the models cost us, with a margin that keeps them running reliably. Every action is priced before it runs, from the current model prices.

Here's what common actions cost, about:

• Build a subject, with a 30-day backfill: 245 credits.
• Keep a subject live: 100 credits a month.
• Ask a new question of 5,000 articles: 189 credits.
• Follow up, using answers already in hand: 23 credits.
• Keep a two-question monitor running: 35 credits a month.

These assume articles of about 1,300 tokens and about 200 candidate articles a day per subject. Questions that reuse judgements already made cost less, and some cost nothing: "Which outlets are most hostile to us?" needs only tone, which is judged for every article anyway.

Staying in control

• The auto-approve limit. Anything under it runs straight away; anything over it asks once, with the price. It's 250 credits per action unless an admin changes it.
• A monthly cap, if you set one: nothing runs that would take the month's spending past it.
• Low-balance warnings tell admins before the balance runs out. If it does, subjects pause until you top up, and nothing is lost.

Admins set the limit and the cap in Settings → Billing.

Plans and packs

Your plan sets your seats, how many subjects you can watch, a monthly credit allowance and your default auto-approve limit. The allowance resets each month and doesn't roll over.

Credit packs top up the balance and last 12 months. Credits that expire first are spent first, so your monthly allowance goes before a pack.

Who can buy

Only owners and admins can change the plan or buy credits. Members who run low see who to ask. Billing runs through Stripe: card details go to Stripe directly and never reach Typestream.

Where credits went

Settings → Billing shows the balance, this month's spending, and usage grouped by what it was for: monitoring subjects, questions, monitors and backfills. Each entry opens to the runs and subjects behind it, and the whole history downloads as a CSV.
